The Antipolo Campus’ College of Pharmacy achieved a remarkable feat by securing first place in the Poster Exhibit Competition during the Philippine Pharmacist Association (PPhA) 2024 National Convention last 13 April 2024. The event took place at the Iloilo Convention Center.

The winning entry, titled “Level of Acceptance of Community Pharmacists in Learning American Sign Language to Break Communication Barriers among Deaf and Non-verbal Patients,” was a collaborative effort by a team of dedicated student researchers who are Jan Mark Alambra, Geraldine N. Battulayan, Althea Trisha Mae M. Beltran, and Kaye Mica S. Matabang. They were advised by Dr. Khent Primo Alcantara, Mr. Anbel Bautista and Mr. Patrick Joel F. Bicaldo.

The study aimed to address the communication challenges faced by pharmacists when interacting with deaf and non-verbal patients. By learning American Sign Language (ASL), community pharmacists can bridge the gap and provide better care to all patients, regardless of their communication abilities.

During the convention, Mr. Anbel Bautista, the Associate Dean of the College of Pharmacy, represented the team as the presenter. His eloquence and passion for the study undoubtedly contributed to their victory. Bautista graciously accepted the award on behalf of the entire team.

The OLFU Antipolo College of Pharmacy has consistently demonstrated excellence in pharmacy education. Notably, it has been recognized as a Top Performing School by the Professional Regulations Commission for its outstanding performance in the Pharmacist Licensure Examinations. The college has produced numerous board topnotchers, reinforcing its commitment to shaping competent and compassionate pharmacists.
