Twenty one Bachelor of Science in Criminology students of the Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU), 20 from the Valenzuela Campus and one from Quezon City Campus under the supervision of Mr. Alberto M. Alvarez, Emergency-Fatima Action Teams for Rescue Services (E-FACTORS) Adviser, successfully completed the 5-day “2nd Summer Basic Rescue Training” conducted by the College of Criminal Justice in coordination with the Valenzuela City Disaster Preparedness Office last April 13 to 17.
First aid, water survival and rescue techniques were the focus of the training. Lectures and other practical exercises were held at the CESO Compound while the actual swimming lesson was done at the Great Falls Resort. The water survival lesson that includes boat rescue operations, paddling and maneuvering techniques and river crossing was held at the Polo River, all venues are located in Valenzuela City.
Leading the Trainors is Mr. Roy Calingacion, Chief Training Officer of the Valenzuela City Disaster Preparedness Office. He is assisted by Mr. Noel Cordova (USAR), Enrique Pineda Jr. (RN-EMT), and Nurses Nica Melette De Castro, Vida Liza Maglanque, Pamela Sheilyn Padrino, Lean Baltazar, Janice Catubigan, Kevin Ray Torrefiel and Richard Tan, all from the same office.
The student-participants will automatically become members of the E-FACTORS that will form part of the College Disaster Preparedness Committee.
The conduct of said activity is a continuing partnership between the OLFU and the City Government of Valenzuela, and was approved by Dr. Caroline Marian S. Enriquez, University President and Dr. Arnaldo F. Antonio, OIC, Valenzuela City Disaster Preparedness Office, respectively.
