On 11 July 2019 at the Valenzuela City Hall, the local government celebrated the 150th birth anniversary of one of its most beloved local heroes — Dr. Pio Valenzuela.

As part of the annual commemoration, the government honored distinguished “Valenzuelanos” who have made significant contributions towards the betterment of the city — recognizing the standard of excellence they have demonstrated in their respective sectors, and the distinctions they have brought to the entire municipality. This event is known as the Gawad Dr. Pio Valenzuela, and is the highest honor that can be conferred upon a resident of Valenzuela

In line with this, the Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) President, Dr. Caroline Marian S. Enriquez, was revealed as this year’s recipient of the Gawad Dr. Pio Valenzuela for Excellence in Education. This recognition was bestowed upon Dr. Enriquez for her various initiatives in the education sector, and for her pursuit of providing quality education; consistently in fulfillment of the Fatima vision of “improving man as man”.

As the President of OLFU, she steered the University towards earning its Autonomous Status from the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd), as well as the accreditation of many of the school’s programs. She was instrumental in the establishment of Campuses #3 to #6: Quezon City (2009), Pampanga (2012), Nueva Ecija (2015), and Laguna (2019). And it was also during her leadership that the University was certified ISO 9001:2015 by the AJA Registrars (A SOCOTEC Company).

Dr. Enriquez is currently the President of the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities (PACU).
