As a commitment to invest in educational technology, Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) played host to a masterclass session titled “Unleashing the Power: Real-time Production in the Age of Unreal Engine,” presented by Douglas Leong, executive of Radiance60 Singapore last 19 April 2024.
Held at the Lecture Hall of OLFU RISE Tower, the event was organized by the Research Development and Innovation Center (RDIC) in collaboration with the Multiple Applications for Reality-Virtuality Experience Laboratory (MARVEL).
Participation was not limited to the confines of the physical hall; students from OLFU’s College of Computer Studies (CCS), alongside faculty members, engaged in the session, with counterparts joining virtually from five other OLFU campuses.
Douglas Leong spearheaded the discussion, delving into the expansive potential of Unreal Engine, unraveling its applications in virtual productions and beyond. Notably, Radiance60’s portfolio showcases the breadth of possibilities within this realm.
On the other hand, Dr. Michael Joseph Diño, Director of RDIC highlighted the pressing significance of integrating Unreal Engine into OLFU’s educational landscape. The visionary underscored the University’s commitment to leveraging technology for enriched learning experiences.
Guided by MARVEL, OLFU is strategically positioning itself to embrace the full spectrum of technological advancements, ensuring a future-ready educational paradigm.
During the open forum segment, a pertinent question was raised by a CCS student regarding the challenge of managing the abundance of tools and content within Unreal Engine. In response, Leong stressed the indispensable role of formal education in navigating this landscape, emphasizing the necessity of a strong foundation.
In a powerful answer, Leong articulated that even with powerful artificial intelligence (AI) and Unreal Engine, effective harnessing of their capabilities hinges upon a solid educational grounding. The rich insights of the tech veteran resonated with attendees, reinforcing the imperative of foundational knowledge in maximizing production potential.
