“I am not what I am today, without my alma mater, Our Lady of Fatima University, who supported my studies as a full scholar during my entire college years. I  grew up poor, and I promised myself  that  I  want to give back to the university who got me started on my professional career .”

This was the inspiring opening statement of the Ma. Ana Tecson-Daquigan, RPT, WCC, CLT, when she shared her knowledge and expertise on Skin and Wound Care Management. Ms. Daquigan is an alumna of the Class of 1996 of the College of Physical Therapy of Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU-CPT).

Organized by OLFU-CPT, the seminar themed as “Advances in Skin and Wound Care Management”, was held at the Fatima University Medical Centre’s Audio-Visual Room. PT students from the 3rd and 4th year levels, along with PT faculty and staff of the college attended the learning event whose goal was to deepen knowledge around wound care, and familiarize  the future generation of PT professionals with the latest trends related to skin care and pressure ulcer prevention.

Ms. Daquigan is a licensed physical therapist and wound care specialist currently based in Houston, Texas. She described the features of the normal structure and function of the skin. Also, she tackled the pathophysiology of pressure ulcers, as well as identified the risk factors of skin breakdown. Staging, prevention and treatment of skin breakdown were then discussed. And corollary to that, Ms. Daquigan touched on the importance of consistent wound documentation, and potential legal issues that may arise. Lastly, the guest speaker demonstrated techniques in proper skin and wound care management.

OLFU is proud of its alumna, Ana Tecson-Daquigan, for propagating the core values of the University, and for her generosity of spirit in her continuing mission to share her wealth of knowledge and experience.
