Students from the College of Criminal Justice of Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU-CCJ) victoriously brought home medals from the Karate Tournament of the 5th National Criminology Students Congress held at host school Naga College Foundation, Inc., Naga City, Bicol on September 28, 2018.

Representing OLFU-CCJ in the competition’s Kumite Event were Dweeziel Magdaong and April Rose Alcoba from the Valenzuela Campus, who both bagged top awards. Magdaong participated in the Individual Men Kumite +70kg category where he earned the First Place- Gold Medal. He bested strong opponents from Central Mindanao Colleges and the University of Cebu Main Campus, who placed second and third, respectively. On the other hand, Alcoba won the Second Place- Silver Medal in the Individual Women Kumite +60kg category.

The Kumite Event is one of the tourney’s two major events, the other one being the Kata Event. Overall, the Karate Tournament saw 31 players from seven different schools in the Philippines.

The OLFU delegation to the 5th National Criminology Students Congress ran from September 27 to 29, 2018, and consisted of Criminology majors from the Valenzuela and Pampanga Campuses. They were supervised by faculty members Alberto Alvarez and George Saipen, Jr.
