In the recently concluded Union of Filipino Tourism Educators (UFTE) National Tourism Skills Olympics 2018, the College of Hospitality and Institutional Management of Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU-CHIM) took home the 3rd Runner-Up Overall Award. The winning team was predominantly composed of students from OLFU-CHIM’s Quezon City Campus.

Held at the Holy Angel University, the Fatima team participated in all categories, namely: Domestic and International Tour Guiding, Domestic and International Tour Package Proposal, Quiz Bee, Poster and Slogan-Making, Male and Female Kasuotang Filipino, and Street Dance. OLFU delegates from Quezon City, Valenzuela City, and Antipolo City represented in the various categories. There were more than 30 schools, colleges, and universities from all over the country who participated in this year’s skills competition.

Jhanlester Lorenzo, Stephanie Rieza, and Veronica Alanzalon (Travel Management, 3rd Year) were hailed 1st Runner Up in the Domestic Tour Package Proposal competition; Andrei Christian Conception and Marilou Lasiapag (Travel Management, 4th Year) won 2nd Runner Up in the International Tour Package Proposal competition; Patricia Alvarez (Travel Management, 3rd Year) won 2nd Runner Up in the Domestic Tour Guiding Competition; while the CHIM Cultural Dance Troupe placed 2nd Runner Up in the Street Dance Competition. Alexandra Josef, a 3rd Year student of the Antipolo City campus also won 3rd Runner Up in the International Tour Guiding competition.

Dr. Aisha Jannine Escabillas served as delegation head, accompanied by Prof. Salve Marie Cariaga and Prof. Albert Ryan Evangelista (Quezon City), Prof. Angelito Fango (coach and chaperone – Valenzuela City), and Prof. Irene Panague (coach and chaperone – Antipolo City). Prof. Armina Javier (CHIM-QC Program Head) and Prof. Marck Bryan A. David (CHIM-QC Tourism SWEP Coordinator) also served as coaches to the Quezon City participants.

This year’s showing adds to the consistent placing of the college in the winners’ roster for the last five years.
