Bagaman naantala, matagumpay na itinuloy pa rin ng College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) kasama ng Senior High School Department ng Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) ang pormal na pagsasara sa makabuluhang pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Wika noong ika-7 ng Setyembre 2023 sa Lecture Hall, RISE Tower.
Dahil sa sama ng panahon, at walang patid na pag-ulan noong huling linggo ng Agosto, naipagpaliban ang nakatakda sanang mga serye ng mga programa para sa espesyal at kultural na selebrasyon.
Gayunpaman, nailunsad pa rin ito ngayong Setyembre kung saan matagumpay na naipamalas ng unibersidad kasama ng mga estudyante at miyembro ng kaguruan ng OLFU, ang pagmamahal sa Wikang Pambansa sa naganap na “Programa sa Buwan ng Wika” na sentralisado sa temang “Filipino at mga Katutubong Wika: Wika ng Kapayapaan, Seguridad, at Ingklusibong Pagpapatupad ng Katarungang Panlipunan.”
Dinaluhan ng mga tagapayo, guro at ilang opisyal ng Kagawaran ng Filipino ang pagselyu ng espesyal na selebrasyon. Sa ipinadalang pambungad na pananalita, ipinunto ni Dekano Ernesto Leuterio Jr, Punongguro ng Senior High School, ang ginagampanan ng Wikang Pambansa sa larangan ng kapayapaan, seguridad at ingklusibong katarungang panlipunan.
Para sa hepe ng SHS, ang wika ay sumisimbolo aniya sa kapayapaan. “Ito ay nag-uugnay sa tao upang magkaunawaan at mapanatili ang harmonikong pag-iral ng bawat indibidwal,” saad niya.
Dagdag niya, pinapanatali ng wika ang payapang bayan dahilan na wika rin mismo ang may garantiya ng seguridad sa isang lugar. “Pinoprotektahan tayo ng wika at dapat pinoprotektahan natin ang mga wika ng bansa,” pagdiin pa ng dekano.
Pagpapatuloy niya, kasabay ng mga pagbabago at hamon sa lipunang ginagalawan, ang wika aniya ang bukas-palad na magluluwal sa katarungan ng lahat.
“Baunin ang tema ng buwan ng wika, hindi lamang sa isang gawa o sa isang patimpalak. Isabuhay natin ang pag-alala sa mga katangian ng wika sa ating kapayapaan at pag-unlad, hindi lang sa isang araw, hindi lang sa isang linggo, hindi isang buwan kun’di ilapat sa araw-araw na pamumuhay. Isama ang Filipino at iba pang wika sa bansa sa persepsyon na kailangan natin ito sa intelektuwalisasyon at pag-unlad,” paghikayat niya sabay pagpapaabot ng pasasalamat sa mga indibidwal na nangunang maisakatuparan ang programa.
Napuno naman ng hiyawan ang Lecture Hall kasunod ng pagsisimula ng pagtatanghal na pinangunahan ng mga kalahok sa paligsahan sa magkaparehang pag-awit.
Pawang mga kantang maka-Pilipino, na hayagang inihihiyaw ang kultura ng bansa ang naging tema ng mga kalahok na tinernuhan pa ng mga kasuotang angkop rin sa selebrasyon.
Bilang resulta, itinanghal na kampeon sina Bernadette Clarisse Francisco at Jarlen Channel Villegas na magkaisang nagpakitang-gilas sa kanilang bersyon ng “Salamat Salamat Musika” ni Gary Granada.
Nagpamalas din ng galing ang nauna nang mga estudyanteng sumali sa mga patimpalak na Spoken Word Poetry at Retrato’t Talumpati kung saan naiuwi nina Marvelah Reyes at Angeline Nicole Alzate, ayon sa pagkakasunod-sunod, ang unang gantimpala.
Kaniya-kaniyang paksa na may kaugnayan sa tema ang itinanghal ng mga lumahok sa Spoken Word Poetry habang umikot naman sa pangunahing isyu ng bansa ang natalakay sa Retrato’t Talumpati kabilang na ang usapin sa drug war noong administrasyon ni Dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte, ang unti-unting pagtaas ng presyo ng bigas sa merkado, at ang agawan ng teritoryo at insidente ng karahasan sa West Philippine Sea sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at ng bansang Tsina.
Sa huli, isang buong-pasasalamat sa mga naging bahagi ng tagumpay ng selebrasyon ang pawang laman lang sa pangwakas na pananalita ni Bb. Zenaida Serrano, Koordineytor ng Kagawaran ng Filipino. Sa parehong pananalita rin ay hinikayat ng batikang guro ang mga estudyante na paunlarin pa ang kumpiyansa sa sarili, at gamit ang sariling wika, ay malinang lalo ang mga angking kakayahan at talento.
Pinangunahan nina Agatha Mae Gan at Carl Justine Rosal, parehong mula sa Baitang 12 ng Humanities and Social Sciences, ang daloy ng programa bilang mga guro ng seremonya. — Raymond Lumagsao
CAS seals Buwan ng Wika staging series of cultural presentations
The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) together with the Senior High School Department of Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) belatedly celebrated the closing ceremony of Buwan ng Wika on 07 September 2023 at the Lecture Hall, RISE Tower.
Due to bad weather, and incessant raining on 31 August 2023, the supposed series of presentations for the special and cultural celebration had been postponed indefinitely.
It was until this September when the university, together with the students and faculty members of OLFU assembled to demonstrate the love for the national language during the concluded “Programa sa Buwan ng Wika” centered with the theme “Filipino at mga Katutubong Wika: Wika ng Kapayapaan, Seguridad, at Ingklusibong Pagpapatupad ng Katarungang Panlipunan.”
Classroom advisers, faculty members, and officers of the Filipino Department attended the sealing of the special celebration. In a relayed opening speech, Dean Ernesto Leuterio Jr, Principal of the Senior High School, pointed out the role of the national language in peace-making, security building and in delivering inclusive social justice.
For the SHS chief, language symbolizes peace. “It connects people to understand each other and maintain the harmonious existence of each individual,” he said.
Elaborating on his talk, Leuterio articulated that language maintains peace in a country for it also guarantees security in a community. “Language protects us and we must protect the languages of the country,” the dean added.
Along with the changes and challenges in the society we live in, the language will generously promote justice for all, he further stated.
“Embrace the theme of Buwan ng Wika, not just in your works or in a contest. Let’s practice keeping in mind the characteristics of [our national] language in our peace-making and development, not just for a day, not just for a week, not for a month but in our daily lifestyle. Incorporate Filipino and other dialects in the country in the understanding that we need it for intellectualization and development,” he encouraged everyone while also expressing his gratitude to his people who had worked tirelessly to stage the closing ceremony.
The Lecture Hall was later dominated with loud cheers as the program kicked off with a cultural showcase of talents led by the duet singing contest.
Filipino songs which openly promote the country’s vibrant tradition became the main theme of the participants who were also dressed in cultural costumes suitable for the celebration.
As a result, Bernadette Clarisse Francisco and Jarlen Channel Villegas who performed their version of Gary Granada’s “Salamat Salamat Musika” were hailed as champion duo.
The students who earlier participated in the Spoken Word Poetry and Retrato’t Talumpati contests re-showcased their compelling talents where in the end, Marvelah Reyes and Angeline Nicole Alzateres took home the coveted first prizes respectively. They eloquently presented their respective topics related to the theme of the program.
Pressing national issues of the country were likewise discussed during the Retrato’t Talumpati contest including the drug war under the administration of Former President Rodrigo Duterte, the gradual price hike of staple rice in the market, and the longtime territorial dispute and incidents of violence in the West Philippine Sea between the Philippines and China.
Finally, Zenaida Serrano, Coordinator of the Filipino Department, expressed her utmost gratitude to the people who contributed to the success of the program despite some challenges. In the same speech, the seasoned educator encouraged the students to further develop their self-confidence, and using their own language, cultivate their skills and talents.
Agatha Mae Gan and Carl Justine Rosal, both from Grade 12 of Humanities and Social Sciences, led the flow of the program as masters of the ceremony. — Raymond Lumagsao
