Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) successfully concluded its faculty training for the new general education (GE) courses which will be implemented this June in a 6-day workshop from April 2 to 7.

In a closing ceremony led by Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Heracleo D. Lagrada, 327 faculty members from various disciplines underwent training for GE courses such as: Art Appreciation; The Contemporary World; Mathematics in the Modern World; Purposive Communication; Readings in Philippine History; Science, Technology, and Society; and Understanding the Self as well as elective course Filipino, and Physical Education.

These courses are part of the new mandated courses implemented by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) under CHED memorandum order no. 20 series of 2013 in preparation for the K to 12 program. To help in the transition, CHED conducted a training for the GE trainors for the nine courses in English and Filipino versions early last year.

However, this year CHED did not conduct a training for the new curriculum due to budget constraints. Hence, OLFU opted to conduct its own training to comply with the CHED requirement.

Dr. Lagrada was very grateful that the training pushed through despite the challenges as the University will benefit from it in the future.

“The success of an educational institution rests on the competence of its faculty,” Lagrada said.

The training was organized by the University Faculty Development Committee chaired by Dr. Lagrada, and its members CPDAP Manager Dr. Rodehlia L. Macaspac, Quezon City Dean Dr. Ramonita A. Salazar, Valenzuela CAS Dean Ernesto R. Leuterio Jr., Antipolo Dean Engr. Wilfredo M. Basilio, Pampanga Dean Muriel E. Caballero, and Nueva Ecija Dean Engr. Roel D. Trinidad
