Last September 24 to 25, 2018, students of the College of Medical Laboratory Science (CMLS) of Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU)-Valenzuela Campus celebrated their College Week through a series of activities held at the OLFU Valenzuela main quadrangle and AMS Auditorium.
Before the main event, and as part of tradition, the Medical Laboratory Science Week began with a holy mass at the OLFU Chapel. Then, CMLS Academic Affairs Coordinator of OLFU Valenzuela, Joseph Joy G. Banzon, delivered a speech about the essence of celebrating Medical Laboratory Science Week. He also shared the CMLS achievements such as attaining the 7th rank out of 100 Medical Technology schools in the country as the best schools to study Medical Technology, based on the recently concluded board examinations last September 2018.
Afterwards, the celebration officially opened with a special guest, Philippine Association of Medical Technologists (PAMET) treasurer, Dr. Eleanor Garcia.
Then, 23 candidates of Mr. and Miss Medical Laboratory Science 2018 were presented, followed by an announcement on the guidelines for the Moda de Jareaux contest. Moda de Jareaux is an annual fashion show competition that promotes creativity, resourcefulness and eco-friendliness through the creation of clothes using recycled materials such as newspapers, tetra packs, and cartons. The Mr. and Miss Medical Laboratory Science 2018 pre-pageant happened at the AMS Auditorium wherein the candidates showcased their talent and wit when it comes to photo interpretation.
On the second day, there was a scientific lecture about Leptospirosis, its causative agent, transmission, pervasiveness, incident rates, complications, and treatment at the AMS Auditorium. Dr. Sharon Yvette Angelina Villanueva, an expert in the said field, led the discussion.
Later, 13 female and 10 male finalists competed in the Mr. and Miss Medical Laboratory Science 2018; showcasing their beauty, elegance, and intelligence during the coronation night.
Fourth year stunner Vinicent Elaine Tan bagged the Miss Medical Laboratory Science 2018 title, while James Rhick Rodriguez was crowned Mr. Medical Laboratory Science 2018.
