A collaboration between the Philippine Daily Inquirer and professional survey agency Statista, the research study of The Philippines’ Best Employers 2023 was conducted on employees working in privately-owned and government-run corporations and institutions, and the results gleaned from the workforce feedback have led to a ranking of best employers in the country.

It was a revelation that out of the 300 Best Employers which emerged from this survey, Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) figured as the Top 47th Best Employer.

The survey was an expansive research undertaking covering thousands of employees coming from hundreds of companies in the country. Organizations with at least 250 employees were deemed as qualified to be included in the evaluation, thereby generating a preliminary list of over 2,000 eligible employers.

27 industry sectors were represented, namely: Aerospace & Defense, Agriculture, Automotives, Banking & Financial Services, Business Services/Supplies, Clothing/Shoes/Sports Equipment, Construction/Oil & Gas Operations/Mining & Chemicals, Drugs & Biotechnology, Economy/Politics/NGO’s, Education, Engineering/Manufacturing, Food/Beverage/Alcohol/Tobacco, Government Services, Health Care, Insurance, IT/Internet/Software Services, Media & Advertising, Packaged Goods, Professional Services, Restaurants, Retail & Wholesale, Semiconductors/Electronics/Electrical Engineering/Technology Hardware & Equipment, Telecommunications/Cable Services, Transportation & Logistics, Travel & Leisure, and Utilities.

Statista doled out the survey anonymously to tens of thousands of employees through online access panels; the latter, a modality typically used by in consumer research. Based on individuals’ diverse socio-demographic profiles, Statista issued out invitations to register as respondents to the study. In the final reckoning, there were 11,000 eligible respondents.

Aside from the online access panels, the Philippine Daily Inquirer also offered up its website by posting the online survey form there during the field phase of end-May to mid-July 2022.

More than 100,000 recommendations from employee-respondents factored into the research, using two criteria: scores and additional information regarding work-related topics. “Scoring” basically reflected the level of engagement: how strongly an employee would directly or indirectly recommend his employer with more weight given to the former (e.g. the level at which an employee would recommend his employer). Ranking of employers was done based on total scores derived. The Top 300 Best Employers scored between 7.86 to 9.37, and they represent the best 9% of qualified companies in the research study. OLFU at rank #47 scored 8.89.

Aside from the abovementioned scores, respondents were also given 25 questions on work-related topics encompassing their job, the work environment, and employer reputation.

Out of the Top 300 Best Employers, 13 came from the Education Sector, with OLFU ranking #4 among the said educational institutions.

The favorable ranking of OLFU may be a result of the fact that this seasoned educational institution of over 50 years has consistently put to work its founders’ mission of “improving man as man”, not only for its students, but for all its stakeholders which include one of the cornerstones of its success— the Employees. Additionally, OLFU’s acts of compassion for the workforce during the years of the COVID-19 pandemic may have been something that resonated strongly in the minds and hearts of the People of OLFU.
