The Philippine Society of Pathologists, Inc. (PSPI) honored two of its members with enviable distinction during their 71st Annual Convention last 25 May 2022.
PSPI named Dr. Andres S. Bonifacio as the organization’s 71st Liborio Gomez Memorial Awardee of the year 2021. Currently the Head of the Parasitology Section of the College of Medicine of Our Lady of Fatima University, Dr. Bonifacio was celebrated for his “service in various capacities and involvement in the promotion and advancement of the science of Pathology in the fields of medical education, research, and professionalism” — glowing words expressed during the conference. Heading OLFU’s Parasitology section for almost 20 years now, Dr. Bonifacio’s memorial award from PSPI serves as a great addition to his already robust collection of accolades as a pillar in the field of Pathology practice and research here and abroad.
On the other hand, PSPI gave Dr. Mary Yvonette C. Nerves the 2021 Outstanding Pathologist Award for her “distinguished practice of Pathology and substantial contribution in the promotion of the discipline and the image of the Society.” Dr. Nerves is an esteemed Faculty Member of OLFU’s College of Medicine. Her pioneering efforts in the practice of Pathology, specifically in residency training and in the accreditation of training institutions for Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology, earned her this latest achievement. In 2018, PSPI had recognized Dr. Nerves as a Distinguished Service Awardee for her continued service in various capacities as member of the Board of Pathology, Executive Secretary of the Board of Governors, and chair of the Committee on Residency Training, among others. She is currently the chair of the Committee on Accreditation of Pathology Training Program.
