The Our Lady of Fatima University participated in the opening ceremony of the Brigada Eskwela 2014 project of the Department of Education held at the Valenzuela City Astrodome last May 19, 2014. The Brigada Eskwela is a nationwide project of the DepEd that will run from May 19 to 24, 2014 with this year’s theme “Making our Schools Safer”. Teacher and student representatives from the different public schools in Valenzuela City witnessed the opening ceremony.

National Service Training Program (NSTP) students and faculty members from the College of Arts and Sciences showed their support and cooperation in this activity. These NSTP students and teachers helped selected Valenzuela City public high schools in the clean-up drive of their respective schools. Aside from this, OLFU also donated 6,000 arm chairs to some public high schools in Valenzuela, Quezon City, Antipolo City and Pampanga.

DepEd’s Undersecretary, Mr. Rizalino Rivera, the event’s guest of honor said that, “all schools should be prepared for any disaster. The Brigada Eskwela is an activity that will ensure the preparedness of our schools during these disasters.” Meanwhile, Valenzuela City Mayor, Mr. Rex Gatchalian, through his representative Councilor Antonio Espiritu said that, “education is one of the major priorities of Valenzuela City.” Mayor Gatchalian thanked all the people who continuously support this activity.

OLFU will be helping a total of 40 public high schools through beautification and repainting, cleanliness, donations of arm chairs and other school-related provisions in line with this year’s Brigada Eskwela project of DepEd.
