OLFU SHOTOKAN KARATE-DO CLUB MEMBERS BAG GOLD MEDAL

Members of the Shotokan Karate-do Club of the Our Lady of Fatima University won in the WomenÕs Festival of Martial Arts held last April 24, 2014 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City. Mikee DL. Dela Cruz, Justine P. Alvarez and Nicole Ann J. Hiponia won gold medal each in the different divisions of the Kata Competition while Mary Ann M. Gregorio bagged a bronze medal in the Kumite competition. The OLFU Shotokan Karate-do Club competed in the tournament upon invitation of the Philippine Karatedo Federation-NSA, Inc. and the Philippine Olympic Committee. This competition was participated by various martial art clubs in the country. The medals and certificates of achievement were awarded to the winners by the Hon. Ricardo R. Garcia, Chairman of Philippine Sports Commission, Hon. Akiko Thompson Guevarra, Commissioner-in-Charge of the Philippine Sports Committee, Ms. Mikee Cojuangco Jaworsky and Dr. Enrico Vasquez, President of the Philippine Karate-do Federation. Members of the OLFU Karate Club will again participate in another national martial art competition to be held on April 30 to May 2, 2014 at Dagupan City, Pangasinan in line with the celebration of the Bangus Festival. Hon. Akiko Thompson Guevarra, Commissioner In-Charge, Philippine Sports Committee posed with Mr. Albert M. Alvarez, adviser-coach of the OLFU Shotokan Karate-do Club and the club members who won gold and bronze medals during the WomenÕs Festival of Martial Arts held on April 24, 2014 at the World Trade Center, Pasay City, after the awarding ceremonies.
