Taguig City – The team composed mostly of students from College of Hospitality and Institutional Management – Quezon City Campus won 3rd Place Over-all in the recently concluded Union of Filipino Tourism Educators (UFTE) National Tourism Skills Olympics 2016 held at the Treston International College last February 26-27. This is the second time in the last five years that the college won 3rd Place Over-all in the said competition.
The college participated in all categories, namely: Domestic and International Tour Guiding, Domestic and International Tour Package Proposal, Quiz Bee, Poster and Slogan-Making, Male and Female Kasuotang Filipino, and Cultural Dance. There were more than 30 schools, colleges, and universities from all over the country who participated in this year’s skills competition.
During the first day, the elimination round was held for all categories, except Kasuotang Filipino. On the final day, the 10th National Tourism Students’ Congress was held in the morning, and the final round for all categories.
Shannae Dacanay and Herna dela Cruz (TM, 3rd Year) were hailed Champions in the International Tour Package Proposal competition; Renz Jaeco Rullan (TM, 3rd Year) won 1st Runner-up in the Male Kasuotang Filipino; John Paul Aclao (TM, 4th Year) and Alyssa Venice Jamotillo (TM, 2nd Year) emerged as 2nd Runner-up and 3rd Runner-up in the Quiz Bee. Clover Gusto (TM Antipolo Campus, 4th Year) became a finalist in the International Tour Guiding competition while the dancers from TM 3A2-4 also made it to the finals of the Cultural Dance Competition. Also the three (3) campuses (Antipolo, Quezon City and Valenzuela campus) participated and converged to compete in other contest such as Domestic Tour Guiding, Poster Making and Domestic Tour Package proposal.
Prof. Armina Javier, CHIM-QC Program Head served as the delegation head of the competing team, while Prof. Marck Bryan David, Prof. Princess Jullah Petallana, Prof. Riza Delos Santos and Prof. Irene Panague served as coaches.
