The College of Hospitality and Institutional Management (CHIM) of the Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) staged its biggest back-to-back event yet at the Manila Hotel last September 13 to 14, 2016.

With a thousand delegates mainly composed of CHIM students, blended with some of its honored alumni, faculty, OLFU leadership, CHIM partners, respected industry practitioners and international speakers, the 2-day affair was packed with CHIM’s new offerings, entertainment and engaged learning.

“A-HosTEL”, CHIM’s Alumni Org Launched

13 September 2016, Manila Hotel – Dr. Ignacio C. Cordova, Jr., Dean of the CHIM took his moment on stage as he put his hand print against a futuristic, rendered image of a hand on the big LED screen. And thus, such pomp symbolized the birth of the CHIM’s newly-formed association for its alumni, the “A-Hostel” or the Alumni of Hospitality and Tourism Education League.

Set against the backdrop of the whimsical A-Hostel logo, Dr. Caroline Marian S. Enriquez, OLFU University President, inducted the interim officers of the new organization for professionals in hospitality and tourism. A first towards this type of initiative that caters to graduates of CHIM, Dean Cordova was proud to recognize some of the college’s most distinguished alumni in attendance.

Ascott Hotel Makati’s General Manager, Joanne Golong-Gomez regaled students and guests coming from OLFU’s five campuses of Valenzuela, Quezon City, Antipolo, Pampanga and Nueva Ecija--- with her personal experiences of how she was able to rise to her current stature, including the work ethics she had to cultivate. Golong-Gomez emphasized, “One of the factors that lead to success in this industry is the passion to serve.”

With the evening billed as a Hollywood-themed Gala Night, guests came in their formal finery, and sat through jaw-dropping performances from each of the OLFU campuses. That most of the numbers were a collaborative effort between students and teachers fueled even more the audience’s cheers and applause.

In the end, the “star-studded” performance of the Quezon City campus, which spoofed quite a number of Hollywood’s “who’s who”, wowed both the judges and the audience as they took First Place over Cabanatuan (2nd), Antipolo (3rd), Valenzuela (4th), and Pampanga (5th). Best-dressed personalities for male and female were also recognized and given cash prizes.
