The College of Education of Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) – Valenzuela and Quezon City Campuses are beaming with pride as their future educators, Elijah Apis and John Lloyd Rivera, brought home gold medals at the 2nd Carl Balita Review Center (CBRC) National Teacher Education Quiz Bee (NTEQ) held on 16 May 2025 at the San Andres Sports Complex in Malate, Manila.
The national-level competition, organized by CBRC, drew 111 education students from across the country to compete in a multi-faceted academic event. The program officially commenced a day prior, on 15 May 2025, with a conference themed RAISE: Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and Smart Education, which equipped the delegates with forward-thinking insights relevant to modern teaching practices.
On the competition day, the NTEQ featured a rigorous three-part challenge. Participants were evaluated not only through a traditional three-round quiz bee, which simulated licensure examination questions, but also through skill-based performance tasks designed to assess their application of AI in education. These tasks included crafting an AI-generated lesson plan, designing a poster on Kendall & Marzano’s New Taxonomy, and developing an AI-proof performance task.
Elijah Apis, a fourth-year Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English (BSSE) student from the Valenzuela Campus, distinguished herself by advancing to the Top 20 and securing a Gold medal—the first-ever such distinction for OLFU’s College of Education at the CBRC NTEQ. Likewise, John Lloyd Rivera of the Quezon City Campus matched this remarkable feat, reflecting the academic strength and innovative spirit fostered within the college.
Their achievements highlight not only individual brilliance but also the high-caliber training and mentorship provided by the University. The gold medal wins serve as a source of pride and inspiration for OLFU’s academic community and reinforce the institution’s commitment to excellence in teacher education.
