OFFICE OF THE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CENTER
In pursuant with Our Lady of Fatima University’s Vision-Mission, “To Improve Man as Man”, the Research and Development Center (RDC) commits itself to the promotion of high quality and excellent scholarly work generated through research that will contribute to the development and betterment of society.
 
To efficiently realize its functions, the RDC implements three research agendas. The implemented categories are:
 
1. Institutional Research Program. A collaboration of all the colleges within the University that aims to promote and develop researches that will contribute to new knowledge and ideas which will help uplift the present condition of the community and the society. It is primarily focused on the rehabilitation of the Tullahan River.
2. Faculty Research Program. A program that enables the faculty members to enhance their research skills by providing assistance in their conduction of researches and experiments that conform with the highest ethical and scientific principles as well as comply with all laws, regulations, and rules governing research works.
3. Student Research Program. A program that encourages students to develop their interest, enthusiasm and inclination towards research. The research climate fosters development starting from a simple topic of interest that leads to a search of references in the library; data gathering, recording and analysis through basic statistical computations; and ultimately, application of common research techniques resulting to writing of a thesis.

RESEARCH GRANTS
The RDC offers the following grants:
 
1. Institutional Research Grant. Full subsidy offered to qualified faculty members undertaking research.
2. Full Scholarship Grant. Full subsidy offered to faculty members for post graduate training programs and advance specializations, including instrumentation and information technology.
3. Graduate School Research Grant. Subsidy is given to graduate students enrolled in any higher education institutions. The student’s thesis/dissertation proposal must have been approved by the defense panel or its equivalent.
4. Baccalaureate Research Grant. Subsidy is given to undergraduate students for the purpose of completing a valuable research work.
 
RDC thesis and dissertation grants are meant to augment the student’s personal budget. Graduate students may receive the full amount or less than the full amount requested in his/her proposal, according to the recommendation of the evaluation committee as based on the projected need of the student in completing his/her master’s or doctoral paper.

EVALUATION OF RESEARCH APPLICATION
The RDC Program Coordinator conducts a preliminary evaluation of all research applications to verify for the following:
 
1. Compliance to the prescribed format;
2. Recommendation of the respective Head of the Department and Dean;
3. In case of a thesis/dissertation:
 
a. Certificate from the Office of the Graduate School regarding the current status of the research.
b. Panel Defense Form which contains the signatures of the panel chairperson and members, action of the panel, comments/suggestions for revisions.
c. Endorsement of the adviser.
d. Graduate student should submit a proposal which clearly enumerates and outlines the budget schedules requested.
 
After the preliminary evaluation, all submitted proposals undergo main evaluation by the Council. The proponent may be requested by the Council to clarify or explain some details, such as to include the breakdown of the requested budget for the proposal, whenever necessary.

The result of the evaluation is usually released one (1) month after the submission of the proposal. The proponent will be informed in writing of the screening results. He/She will be advised of the implementation date and procedure of the research grant. No research/thesis/dissertation shall start before the date of approval. Any request for exemption shall be left to the discretion of the RDC Director.
 
 
CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION
The research project proposal must be in line with the research priorities of the University. The proposal shall be evaluated in accordance with the following criteria:

The scope, problems, and objectives of the study shall be evaluated as to their significance and attainability.
The feasibility of the proposed research project shall be assessed in terms of its technical, financial, economic and social factors.

The judgment of the research’s significance shall be based on the benefits that the study will contribute to the economic and social development of the society.

The significance of the project shall be measured in terms of its contribution to the stock of knowledge. Research output should be capable of implementation and use.

The proposed research process should be replicable and its methodology justified and sound.
 
The Council shall base its decision on the average score garnered by the research application. The bases, as indicated in the Research Application Evaluation Form (RDC-RAE-02) are as follows:
 
POINT INTERPRETATION
40 – 50 points The research proposal is very meritorious and is highly recommended for approval.
30 – 40 points The research proposal is recommended for approval subject to minor revisions and improvements.
Below 30 points The research proposal is not deemed meritorious and needs major revisions in order to be considered.
