Two students from the College of Maritime of Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) have their education and professional careers practically signed, sealed, and delivered— and that is all because of Vintex Shipping Philippines Corporation, a land-based recruitment agency specializing in the placement of Filipino seafarers and duly licensed by the Philippines Overseas Employment Administration and the Department of Labor and Employment.

Fulfilling their commitment to produce competent and quality-performing seafarers, Vintex scouts, vets, and selects highly motivated cadets from CHED-accredited maritime schools. A component to this is their advocacy of providing scholarships to the most eligible candidates. In January 2023, two cadets from OLFU are most fortunate to be granted scholarships. They are Rafael Cenita, Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering and Mark Vincent Cainglet, Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation.

Qualifying for the educational privilege was a structured process in itself. Last 03 December 2022, Vintex visited OLFU’s College of Maritime where hopefuls composed of 2nd Year-Level cadets were subjected to a written exam. Test passers were then funneled through an oral interview by Vintex, after which the said company made their final selection. The scholarships begin to take effect in January 2023 when the Second Semester of SY 2022-2023 begins.

As beneficiaries of the scholarship, Vintex will be providing Cenita and Cainglet with monthly stipends and free training. Bonus incentives are also in store if the scholars graduate with Latin honors. And what’s more, Cenita and Cainglet will have guaranteed slots as cadets aboard an international trade vessel; an opportunity that will certainly jumpstart their maritime careers and infuse adventure, especially that Vintex Shipping takes it upon itself to track the cadets’ career progression until such time that they become officers and thereby qualify to man the vessels of the principals.

Vintex Shipping Philippines Corporation is recognized and certified by Class NK in Crew Manning Services, a recruitment and placement service provider whose goal is to supply its principals with qualified seafarers by guaranteeing that their safety and performance competencies are aligned to the standards set by the Maritime Labor Convention 2006.
