The College of Pharmacy (CoP) of Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) staged its 2nd White Coat Ceremony in January-February 2020. Composed of separate events held across OLFU’s five campuses, this year’s theme of “OLFU Pharmacists at the Forefront: Advocates of Medication Safety for a Healthy Nation” pervaded throughout.
Deemed as a formal rite of passage, the White Coat Ceremony stands as a symbolical milestone where students are ushered into the initial stages of a pharmacist’s profession. Participants to these events are OLFU’s student-pharmacists who are taking advanced professional pharmacy courses.
Guest speakers from various professional pharmacy organizations, and representatives from the Young Pharmacists Group-Philippines (YPG) cloaked the future pharmacists in their white coats as parents and guardians looked on. Then, altogether, the students took the pledge of professionalism to further affirm their commitment to patient service, as well as their loyalty to the pharmacy profession.
The campuses of Quezon City and Valenzuela held the White Coat Ceremony on January 21st and February 17th, respectively. For both campuses, Former Chair of the Board of Pharmacy Jennifer Flores was the invited speaker, and YPG Philippines Vice President Chelsea Panganiban was likewise an honored guest.
On the other hand, the campuses of Pampanga, Nueva Ecija and Antipolo staged their White Coat rites on January 22nd, January 23rd and February 9th, respectively. For all three campuses, the invited speaker was Mark Ryan Langit, Lecturer and Module Developer of the Asia Pacific Institute for Medication Management. YPG Philippines sent their delegation as follows: Ralph Patrick Umayam (for Pampanga), Aaron Bryce Cantuba (for Nueva Ecija), and Sylvette Sherina Toledo (for Antipolo).
