June 16,2017

A budding Michael Phelps of the Philippines is taking on the world one breaststroke at a time. Arbeen Miguel Thruelen, 12, is currently a grade five student of the Basic Education Department of Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU), Quezon City campus.

Last 07 June 2017, University President, Dr. Caroline Marian S. Enriquez, congratulated swimmer Arbeen at the Valenzuela campus for bringing home two gold medals from a Hong Kong competition. Also present to greet the young man were BED Administrator Robert Bjorn Santos, Assistant BED Assistant Admiistrator Rafael Vicente Enriquez, BED-QC Principal Nora Castada and Swimming Coach Ruben Thruelen. The latter is also the father of Arbeen.

Earlier, Arbeen had also competed from the school intramurals, then progressing to the Palarong Pambansa, which ultimately elevated him to international competitions.

So far, as of June 2017, Arbeen has already bagged over 20 medals of gold, silver and bronze from both local and international competitions.

During the courtesy call, Dr. Enriquez and other OLFU officials discussed with Arbeen’s swim team the University support of the young champion’s upcoming swimming tournaments in Europe and Singapore.

A few days after the said visit, OLFU’s swimmers from Basic Education competed in the 11th Senator Nikki Coseteng International Swimming Competition held last 11 June 2017 at the Diliman Preparatory School. The event was hosted by the Philippine Swimming League. With over 400 swimmers representing a host of schools and universities, OLFU’s three athletes emerged with victories:
