September 06,2017

Pasay City – The College of Hospitality and Institutional Management (CHIM) of Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) once again dominated the 28th Philippine Travel Mart Special Events held last September 2-3 at the SMX Convention Center.

Represented by students and coaches from the Quezon City Campus, OLFU-CHIM registered wins in the National Quiz Bee, Himig ng Kundiman, and the Patimpalak sa Kasuotang Filipino, as well as a respectable finish at the Cultural Dance Competition.

Khristian Yumul Paras, a 3rd Year BS Travel Management (BSTM) student, emerged as Champion in the Himig ng Kundiman competition besting nine other finalists from various schools and universities. With his operatic rendition of the contest piece - Bituing Marikit, and his choice piece – Kundiman, Khristian wowed both judges and audience alike on his way to a runaway win.

For the National Tourism Quiz Bee, Geraldine To, 3rd Year BSTM, had to go through 3 grueling rounds of competition on Tourism and Destination Marketing, Tour Planning and Costing, and Current Events. She took 3rd Place among 10 national finalists after delivering the correct response to a tie-breaking question. Alyssa Venice Jamotillo was also a national finalist who placed 7th. OLFU was the only University who had two National Finalists.

In the Patimpalak sa Kasuotang Filipino, 3rd Year BSTM students Judy Ann Tindoc and Ken Miura placed 2nd Place (Female Category) and 3rd (Male Category), respectively. Wearing designs by Joshua Andrew Lariosa (4th Year BSTM), the pair in emerald green modern Filipiniana attire captivated the judges. The green and gold colors of the attire were in honor of the 50th founding anniversary of OLFU.

Lastly, the CHIM Cultural Dance group performed the Sayaw Mindanao, showcasing the rich culture of Muslim Mindanao. Composed mostly of 3rd Year BSTM students, the synchronization and colorful costumes amazed the audience and judges alike.

This is the fifth straight year that the college has participated and won in the various events of the yearly Philippine Travel Mart. Marck Bryan David and Armina Javier served as the coaches of OLFU-CHIM for this year’s tilt.
