Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) Choral bagged the Silver A award for mixed voice category in the First Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) National Choral Competition held in the Nicanor Abelardo Hall of the CCP on August 20, 2009 proving that despite being young, it is at par with other choral groups in the country which were established for more than 20 years ago.
Choral groups that joined in the division included Coro Tomasino of the University of Santo Tomas, University of the Philippines (UP) Medicine Choir, University of Visayas (UV) Choral, Imusicapella from Imus, Cavite, and UP Los Bańos Choral Ensemble. Some of these groups have already joined in international competitions.
OLFU Choral’s repertoire included “Le Chant des Oyseoux”, “The Blue Bird”, and “Mamayog Akun”. Each group was given a maximum of 15 minutes to perform.
During the announcement of winners on August 22, 2009, UV Choral and Imusicapella received the Gold award.
Meanwhile, the choral is also preparing for the Busan International Choral Festival and Competition which will be held in South Korea from November 4 to 7 of this year. It will be competing in the mixed voice and folk categories.
To prepare for this big competition, the group is holding a series of fund-raising concerts on September 23 in Antipolo Campus, September 24 in Quezon City Campus, and September 26 in Valenzuela City Campus.
