First timer Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) Antipolo Campus toppled various schools and secured overall champion title in the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) held at Tomas Claudio Memorial College (TCMC) in Rizal last November 30, 2009.
"As a new comer, we're not expecting too much, and as what we had experienced here, it was well organized and we could say that we're really prepared," Ms. Mary Grace Adriano, Coordinator of the Physical Education Department Antipolo Campus stated.
OLFU Phoenix produced its first gold and silver medals in table tennis. Nerie Roca was hailed as the champion in the Men's Single B Division and Anna Marie Escuadra for the Women's Single. Silver medalists include Patrick Devibar and Patrick Balmaceda for Men's Doubles, Cathrine Ramos and Marie Anne Palic for Women's Doubles, and Jeremy Taguinod for Women's Single A.
In the chess event, Romar Reyes ranked fourth in the Men's event while Claudine Aberin grabbed third place in the Women's event. Both woodpushers will be competing with other players from TCMC, Siena College, and Roosevelt College in the upcoming Regionals.
Fatima, bolstered by victories in taekwondo and badminton, zoomed on top of the standings with six golds, five silvers, and one bronze medal.
Bantamweight Roberto Jamili, welterweight Mikhail Tenazas, and heavyweight Michael Cabildo captured their gold medals against Siena College and World City Colleges (WCC) while Auston James Crisostomo from the lightweight division got his gold by winning against another Fatimanian, John Carlo Namoco who made it for silver. Finweight Ronaldo Dequito, flyweight Jansen Gianan, and featherweight Mark Dela Cruz settled for silver after being crushed by Siena College and WCC.
Jessa Mae De Castro and Hazel Mariano made an impressive drive in taekwondo when they competed in the Women's finweight and flyweight events, respectively as the former got a silver medal and the latter won a bronze medal.
In badminton, Fatima battled Siena College for the Women's single event with Desiree Sanico, taking with her another gold medal, while John Kelvin Ladi and James Albert Sanico saw action in the Men's doubles and took the championship home.
The Volleyball team brought WCC down to third place while the team Phoenix's magical run came to an end as it bowed to TCMC in the finals of the Men's division and in Women's division, defending champion WCC retained their title after dropping TCMC down to second while Fatima settled in for third. Rizal Bermundo and Darby Cruz of the Men's and Danna Rodriguez of Women's were the highest scorers of the Phoenix team.
Fatima's Men and Women's basketball team won by default and both will be competing in the Regional Games.
