Fatima University

The National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) dominated the throng once again as it welcomed the ten member-schools who competed in the recently concluded Cheerleading Competition held in Rizal Memorial Sports Complex last November 28, 2009 with the purpose of developing confidence of the youth and honing them to become better individuals by having discipline and determination.

The program started with the entrance of the colors followed by the parade of participants showing off their flamboyant cheering attire which stirred the crowd as each squad was called one by one. It was followed by the singing of the National Anthem led by the Our Lady of Fatima University Chorale.

The ten competing teams for the cheerleading competition were the Our Lady of Fatima University Phoenix, Lyceum of Subic Bay Sharks, AMA Computer University Titans, St. Clare College Saints, University of Manila Hawks, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasay Eagles, Centro Escolar University Scorpions, STI College Olympians, San Sebastian College Recoletos Cavite Baycats, University of Makati Hardy Herons and New Era University Hunters, which failed to compete for an unknown reason.

Each group was given a maximum of five minutes to execute their routine. It was a breath-taking experience for everyone who witnessed such wonderful moves, matched with optimism that their school would emerge as champions.

The UMAK Hawks bagged the championship title with the score of 215, the second place went to the CEU Scorpions having the score of 208 and the third place was secured by PLP Eagles for having the score of 186. Being the newest member of NAASCU, the Phoenix Pep Squad placed fourth in the overall ranking, by garnering a total score of 185, which was just one point away from the third placer.
