Our Lady of Fatima University’s certificate program in Medical Transcription prepares students for employment as an entry-level medical transcriptionist, or in related employment needing medical transcription skills, in medical clinics, medical offices and hospitals. Students use computers, dictation, and transcription equipment to apply the principles of medical terminology to the production of medical-related documents that are accurate and professional. Students learn to keep records accurate and clear, to reduce the chance of ineffective and harmful treatments for patients.
The Medical Transcription Department also does Placement Assistance Service for those that complete our course. The Department trains you on the proper way to transcribe with the new technology of digital transcription as well as other aspects of going from ‘no prior experience’ to a Medical Transcriptionist. We work closely with employers and focus on the business side of medical transcription.
While training is presented as its own reward in most courses, the Department considers training to be the means to an end: successful employment. We focus on what top employers want and what is required to earn a good living, rather than the "fascination" of medicine. Consequently, the Department’s perspective is different from that of most training vendors, and we carefully put a lot of emphasis on developing strong transcription skills.
